There are approximately 6,587 people that call East Rochester home. The coterminous town and village is located southeast of the City of Rochester and surrounded by Pittsford and Perinton. Back in 1897, East Rochester was known as the Village of Despatch. The mainline of the New York Central Railroad ran through the center of the village. The community was created for their employees, as well as other early businesses at the time including: The merchants Despatch Corporation and the Aeolian Piano Corporation. The original buildings today are in use and known as the Piano Works Mall. To better showcase the village’s proximity to the city of Rochester, the village was incorporated as the Village of East Rochester in 1906.

In the past few years, East Rochester has gone through a major revitalization. Its primarily a “residential” town but home to many local businesses, including companies like The Crosman Seed Company and Rochester Lumber. It is also home to a flourishing restaurant industry.
