HistoryThe Pre-Dawn Era: There are few real estate companies that specialize in new home sales. There are established methods for selling existing homes, but no standard for the sale of new construction. As a result, it is easier for most agents to sell existing properties. According to NAR (The National Association of REALTORS®) only 3.7% of real estate agents specialize in selling new homes. Kimberlie Barrett, a multi-million dollar producer in new homes sales since 1981, recognized this untapped market, and opened her first real estate firm dedicated to representing builders and new home buyers, in 1984. Baby Steps: Barrett began researching the needs of the new home market. Finding that many buyers average six months or longer to locate a suitable building community, on their own, she envisioned a software program to maintain complete and up-to-date information on new home communities; a multiple listing for new construction. In 1988, she co-created The New Home Explorer®, still believed to be the first such system in the country. With comprehensive information, impressive graphics and a flexible searching system, it enables a real estate agent to reduce hundreds of communities and thousands of building sites to a few ideal choices in a matter of minutes. |
Magellan®, Inc. maintains the exclusive license to The New Home Explorer®. In late 2009, Magellan®, Inc. will introduce the third edition of The New Home Explorer® which has been re-engineered to adapt to an international marketplace and savvy internet buyer. Giant Leaps: A true visionary, Barrett responded to the economic times and the decline in new home sales and decided in late 2007 to diversify the company by adding international, commercial and corporate fields of specialization alongside new construction and existing real estate. |
